Artist Testimonial :

When I first began nature & travel journaling I used technical pens but was constantly frustrated by clogged and skipping nibs and messy, time consuming cleanings. After I was introduced to Micron Pigma pens ALL of my problems evaporated and I have been using Micron Pigma pens, in both black and color inks, for two decades now.

Artist Statement :

I enjoy adding value gradation to my ink drawings through stippling. This technique produces wonderful results but can be very harsh on pen tips. And, yet, I can honestly say that I have never experienced a tip failure with a Micron pen. Pigma inks are also very high in intensity, light fast, and (once dry) waterproof -- a trait I find invaluable as I frequently add watercolor washes to my ink drawings.

More recently I have been introduced to the Koi Water Brush and it has quickly become my go-to brush for field sketching. I find that it is fairly easy to master the handling characteristics of the synthetic bristles, it's VERY easy to create gradient washes, and gone for good are the days when you worried about how to take water afield.

Sakura is a name I've come to rely on, on a 2 month tour of Europe in 2009, and (beginning April 15) a 6-week adventure in the Wilderness Area of North Cascades National Park.

In a way, the act of drawing and painting is a selfless one. I, as an artist, try to get closer and become more acutely aware of every detail of my subject. I loose track of time. I loose awareness of myself. And, for awhile, I identify only with the nature and spirit of my subject and of timelessness.

I am fascinated with how a drawing or painting can take inanimate materials and create patterns, textures and color arrangements that transcend lan
guage barriers and touch the intellect, the emotions and the spirit of the viewer. For most of my life I have been “loosing” myself (and finding my soul) through my art -- in nature, in the inner workings of the human imagination, and in the people, places and things I have encountered during my travels and adventures across America and abroad.

At times I strive to capture the grandeur of sweeping vistas, while at others I focus on the intimate nature of delicate flowers and tiny insects. I have explored the world of dreams, the ebb and flow of “living” water, and the spirit of humanity.
